Pebble Incense Burner for Nambe
East Meets West
As contemporary western culture aspires to adopt ideas from eastern culture such as yoga and aspects of spiritual practice, this design provides a contemporary interpretation of a traditional and ritualistic object originating in Asia but intended for a western audience.
The form consists of two elements, an aluminium pebble that flips to accommodate the burning of Indian, Tibetan or Japanese incense sticks with a recess on the reverse side that accommodates the burning of cones. The cherry wood base collects the ash and serves as storage for cones with a poetic form that expresses the ripple motion of the placement of the pebble.
